Dishwasher Rack Stop Broken? How to Identify the Right Replacement

Dishwasher rack stop broken?


A broken upper-rack stop can turn a working dishwasher into a daily annoyance. The rack may slide too far, come off the rail, or refuse to stay aligned. The difficult part is that many dishwasher rack stops look similar while using different rail widths, snap geometry, and left/right shapes.


Start with the dishwasher model number


Do not buy a stop clip only because it looks close in a photo. Find the dishwasher model number first, then use a model-specific parts diagram to identify the OEM rack-stop number.


Check whether the stop is left or right


Some rack systems use mirrored parts. A current right-side stop does not automatically fit a discontinued left-side stop. PartAgain is currently tracking WP8573953 because the left-side stop is no longer available while the separately identified right-side WP8573954 is still sold.


Confirm the exact OEM number


The OEM identifier is usually the best search key. Search the exact number by itself, then with terms such as replacement, discontinued, no longer available, rack stop, or end cap.





Exhaust legitimate supply first


Discontinued does not always mean every original part has vanished. Old-stock and used pieces can still appear. If a credible exact-fit OEM part is available at a sensible price, that is usually the simplest solution.


Keep the broken original


If the part is truly unavailable, keep every fragment. A broken stop can preserve critical geometry such as rail width, latch thickness, stop depth, tab position, and left/right orientation. Those details matter far more than a generic photo when a replacement is reverse engineered.
